What I ate Wednesday

What I ate Wednesday

I really want to try and incorporate some more healthy lifestyle posts in to my blog, so I thought I’d try out doing the What I ate Wednesday series. However, as I write my posts at the weekend and schedule them to go up during the week, it will actually be what I ate on Sunday but will go up on Wednesday evenings. Kind of defeats the point of What I ate ‘Wednesday’ I know.. but I just wouldn’t have the time during the week.

So I’m kicking it off with what I ate this Sunday just gone. I’ve been on a bit of a health kick for the last three weeks as it was getting to the point where I was eating out or ordering takeaways almost every night. I’ve been trying to have about 7/8 portions of fruit and veg every day – some days are more like five, others are closer to ten, that’s just how it goes. I’ve also been trying to get a lot more protein in to my diet as I’m not the biggest meat-eater, but I’m not trying to cut lots of sugar or carbs out or anything like that (as you’ll see). Just more fruit/veg and protein! So this is what I ate on Sunday.

For breakfast I made a smoothie – which I’m really trying to have one of everyday. It contains a handful of blueberries and raspberries with about 300ml of soya milk, a scoop of MyProtein protein powder and a teaspoon of flax seeds. I really love smoothies and they’re such a quick and easy way of getting lots of goodness in to you. I buy bags of fresh chopped frozen fruit from Tesco, which means that making the smoothies takes practically no effort at all and you don’t have to worry about using the fruit up quickly before it goes off.

Then mid morning I had a green tea and an Eat Natural cereal bar – this is the ginger, dark chocolate and cranberry one which is really really nice. IMG_7489

I had a bit of a late lunch at 3pm as I just can’t seem to do lunch at the normal time on a Sunday, even if it’s not a roast. I made some fajitas with Quorn fajita strips. I’m not vegetarian, but I fancied trying these fajita tips out as they looked pretty tasty and only took five minutes to cook in the pan. I added some mixed peppers, red onion and spinach and put it all in a gluten-free wrap with some BBQ sauce. Tgey were pretty damn good too. Only problem is I was so quick to scoff them that I didn’t get a picture of the finished product, so I’ll leave it to your imagination. IMG_7347

Then for a snack at six I had a bowl of grapes, apple slices, and bear paws (yes, those things that kids have in their lunch boxes). I also had a glass of cranberry juice, an Actimel yoghurt and a couple of Cadburys Curlywurlys and some Strawbs gummy sweets- because why not?

Overall, it was a pretty healthy day. I’m always healthier at weekends than during the week as I usually come home from work and just want comfort food, like curry or pizza. Let me know what you think of this post and whether you’d like another for next week? I can try and mix them up and squeeze in some cool meal ideas if you fancy it? Let me know in the comments!

Five things beauty bloggers made me buy

Five things beauty bloggers made me buy

I’ve seen a lot of these posts about this recently and they’ve had me thinking – how many things have I bought because of other beauty bloggers? Or purely for blog pictures? Turns out there are quite a few things… Here are ten items that I’ve been encouraged to buy because of blogging.

  1. MAC’s Velvet Teddy lipstick. I am absolutely positive that if you are a beauty blogger you will be fully aware of Velvet Teddy, if you don’t own several. Beauty bloggers without a doubt influenced my choice to buy Velvet Teddy but I 100& don’t regret it at all. It is my most used lipstick by far, I love it. IMG_6994
  2. A corrector palette. I feel like a few months ago corrector palettes were everywhere and all anyone talked about so I got myself a Revolution one. Again, I don’t regret this purchase, I’m still using it everyday and it works wonders. img_5184
  3. Barry M Matte Me Up liquid lipstick. Again, these have been very talked about and beauty bloggers have been loving them as great dupes for the Kylie lip kits. Although I don’t at all regret buying the product as I really like it, I don’t really like the other shades that they sell. matte me up barry m
  4. Collection concealer is definitely another one of those products everyone was talking about, however I’m not sure I’m so on board with the hype on this one. Although the concealer itself was okay, I thought the choice of shades was pretty rubbish. Being a concealer, it should really be a shade lighter than your foundation but their lightest shade was far too dark for my pale skin. Facetune
  5. I’ve bought various gold/copper items and fairy lights to use in blog and Instagram pictures after seeing other bloggers use them. For example my New Look gold pineapple plate/dish or my Primark copper fairy lights. However, they also look really pretty in my room so it’s a win win situation really!

What products have beauty bloggers made you buy? Have you bought any of the products that I have for the same reason? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for reading and watch out for a ‘My holiday in pictures’ post coming tomorrow. If you can’t get enough of me and can’t wait until tomorrow for another post then you can check out yesterday’s blog post ‘Blogger wishlist – make-up, homeware, clothes, books & more‘ or find me on my social media links!

Favourite four – products I can’t live without

Favourite four – products I can’t live without

Before I get into this post, I just thought I’d say that I’ve made a new Instagram that’s purely for my blog (I’ve noticed some of you have been following my personal, but I barely post over there, so it seemed like a good idea), so if you want to go check that out you can follow me here and I’ll be more than happy to follow other bloggers back! You can also find my Twitter for my blog here. Alternatively, my usernames for both are @emmachxrlotte_.

Okay, so now I’ve got my shameless self-promo out of the way, lets talk make-up. I thought I’d write a post about the make-up products that I can’t live without. A couple of years ago I’d have probably said foundation and concealer, but these days i’m not too bothered about going out without foundation – in fact I think it’s important to let your skin breathe. Instead, my products I can’t live without are as follows…

Colour Pop Ultra Satin in Echo Park. This product is a really new addition to my favourites and comes courtesy of Kate (you can find her blog here – if you check her out please tell her I sent you!) after I won her giveaway and Colour Pop lip gloss was one of the prizes. It is definitely my new favourite. This thing survived a McDonald’s El Chicken Spicy burger, a chocolate muffin and a lasagne – I think it’s safe to say it’s pretty durable. Not to mention the gorgeous colour. I’ll definitely be buying some of these in the very near future.

The Max Factor Voluptuous False Lash Effect mascara is also courtesy of Kate. Just look at the brush on this thing, it’s amazing. Normally I’ll go over my lashes a good few times and then work at separating them out and what not, but this brush does all your work for you in literally one swipe. I don’t know how or why I haven’t come across this before to be honest, but I think I’ll be sticking with it! So thank you Kate, you’ve got some seriously good taste in make-up!

Next up is my eyelash curler. As someone with very straight eyelashes, this thing is a life saver. I couldn’t go without my eyelash curler. I’ve had this thing for a good three or four years now and it’s lasted me so well. It still looks as good as new and works as well as ever. I believe I just got this from Boots (if not Boots, then Superdrug) but I haven’t got a clue what brand it is. It’s bloody good though.

Lastly, I mentioned the Freedom Eyebrow Pomade in my Drugstore Make-up Haul and Review and my February Favourites, and I’m talking about it again because I just cannot get enough of the stuff. I’ve used it every day now for a good couple of months and I still love it. My eyebrows aren’t bad in shape, but I’ve got a few chicken pox scars in them that have left me with little bald patches, so I really hate how they look when they’re not filled in. So therefore, the Freedom Pomade would have to make my top four.

Let me know in the comments what your favourite four products are that you can’t live without, and let me know if you’ve tried any of these products and what you thought! Thanks for reading and keep an eye out for a Netflix-related post going up tomorrow!

P.S. what do you think of the photos for this post? I decided to make myself a background for my pics and this is the result! I’m sort of loving it, tbh.
