Devon in pictures – Spring 2017

Devon in pictures – Spring 2017

I recently went away on holiday to Devon and while I was there I was sure to take plenty of scenic shots. I’ve managed to narrow them down to just a handful and I thought I’d share them on here. I find it really interesting looking at these kinds of posts – especially if it’s a place I’ve never been to. So, I hope you all enjoy and it gives you a little insight in to where I stayed and what I got up to!

The first picture I took when we’d literally just parked up.

We then went off exploring the little town of Shaldon for a couple of hours and had something to eat. (Excuse the state of my hair, I’d been up since 5am and had spend 5 hours in the car in my defence.)

IMG_6681

We stayed in a lovely little house called The Dolphins which was backed on to the water and was literally half over it.

All of the houses were so pretty, I’d love to live in one of these over-looking the water.

IMG_6677

All round the backs of the houses were these tiny little roads and random short cuts on to the beach.

We visited a couple of the pubs and cafes while we were there. This was at the London Inn and these were by far the fanciest bacon sarnies I have ever seen – they were amazing though! This place was literally a one minute walk from where we were staying and had such a lovely atmosphere, I would definitely recommend it.

Another day of exploring.

I took this shot from a little beach that was hidden away round the back of Shaldon. There was a little cave that you could go through that brought you out on to this secret little beach.

Later in the week we caught the train in to Exeter. This isn’t like your train journey in to Birmingham, this was an amazing train journey. The train goes all along the coast and the views are gorgeous.

The Exeter Cathedral ft. my Dad. The Cathedral was gorgeous and was surrounded my so many shops – such great place to go for a shopping spree!

Huge holiday haul

Huge holiday haul

If you follow my Instagram for my blog you may have seen that I recently went on holiday to Devon. While I was away I ventured in to Exeter for a day to check out their shops – I wasn’t disappointed.

I started off in New Look, which is a shop I’ll always end up back at. I first picked up this gorgeous watch. I already have a more expensive metal watch but wanted something that wouldn’t be tapping on the desk every time I typed something at work. It was an added bonus that the watch is actually really pretty and looks a lot more expensive than it is (it was just £12)!

I also got this pretty embroidered shirt. I’m loving the whole embroidery trend at the moment and this shirt is just perfect for this time of the year and is ideal for work. It was £18, which I didn’t think was too bad at all.

I know the whole band t-shirt thing is kind of controversial and that’s why I’ve held back now for a while and not hopped on the band wagon. But to be honest, I’ve decided I just don’t care anymore and I’ll wear whatever I like. So I picked up this ripped Rolling Stones t-shirt – which I love. I also got this cropped pink jumper. It’s the perfect comfy kind of jumper to lounge around in on a mouldy Sunday and it was well worth the buy.

Lastly, I finally managed to get a light up letter ‘E’! I’ve wanted one of these for so so long but nowhere ever seems to have an E in stock. Of course I couldn’t not buy it. It looks great on my book shelf and is fab for blog and Instagram pictures. I also picked up the infamous golden pineapple that almost every blogger seems to own. Again, it looks great on my shelf and is really pretty. It just means that I can keep rings and little miscellaneous objects that often get lost all together in one pretty dish.

Facetune

I also popped in to Primark, of course. I got myself the prettiest and so un-Primark-like underwear set. I feel like Primark have seriously upped their lingerie game recently and have some beautiful sets. I really wish I’d bought more actually as they’d got some seriously pretty bralettes! They were so inexpensive too at just £8 for the bra and £6 for the pants. I also loved the fact that they’re sold separately so you can have a different size  for the top to the bottom – is anyone actually the same size top and bottom? Also, if you have slightly bigger boobs and don’t think you can wear bralettes then maybe give this one a go as it has the extra cross straps across the back for a bit more support!

Facetune

I’m an absolute sucker for a playsuit, I love them, and I couldn’t resist this one from Primark. It was only £8 and will be perfect if we actually ever get any warm weather over here (I doubt it).

IMG_7046

As if I don’t already have far too many fairy lights, I picked up these copper wire ones for £4 from Primark because you just can’t ever have too many fairy lights.

IMG_7177

I also popped in to H&M and bought this pretty phone case. I’d actually seen this online and almost got it but when I saw it in the shop I realised it was way prettier in person. The flowers are actually real and have been pressed, which I just think is the best idea to be honest. It was only £5.99 and there were various other cases that I liked there too, H&M have got a good selection.

IMG_7184

I also made a trip in to the Card Factory, because they sell the best candles believe it or not. I bought this lavender candle and it’s just strong enough to be able to tell what it is without being really over powering. I love lighting lavender candles before I go to bed as they help me sleep, if you find it hard to get to sleep you should definitely try it.

IMG_7178

Finally, – which I didn’t actually buy myself but I’m including it in my haul anyway – my friend Emily got me The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr. Coincidentally, I just so happened to have bought her the exact same book and she’s already finished it and seemed to rate it. I’m only about a quarter of the way through though but so far it seems alright – I’ll update you in a later post when I’ve finished it.

IMG_7182

So as you can tell, my whole saving money thing is going well! I regret none of these purchases though, even if my bank account is now crying. Thank you for reading and keep an eye out for an adventure-y post tomorrow, full of pictures from my holiday!

Tips for new bloggers!

Tips for new bloggers!

As a fairly new-ish blogger myself, I thought it’d be useful if I share some of the biggest things I’ve learnt so far in my 4/5 months of blogging. So here are some tips for those of you out there who are just starting out – I hope they help!

  • Don’t get too hung up on numbers. A small loyal and interactive following is much better than having 10,000 followers that don’t pay attention to what you post. It takes time to build up a good following so just be patient.
  • Be consistent. Being consistent and keeping to an upload schedule can keep you organised, make your blog look more professional and encourage people to come back to your blog on particular days to check for posts.
  • However, don’t set the bar too high. Don’t go trying to get a post up every single day – fewer quality posts are much better than lots of rubbish posts.
  • Don’t be afraid to make the first move and email companies and ask to collaborate. There is no harm in asking and the worst they can do is say no. Don’t sit around waiting for doors to open; go and open doors for yourself.
  • If you do collaborate with a company, be sure to ask them to share the post via their social media too. You’re doing them a favour so why shouldn’t they do you one too?
  • Act like you’re a professional, even if you’re not. Make yourself a contact email and create a professional signature for your emails – make a good impression.
  • Create a PR/Contact me page for your blog to make it as easy as possible for companies to contact you and to make it clear that you are PR friendly.
  • Set up an Instagram and a Twitter account and get following fellow bloggers to make friends. Share your blog on as many platforms as possible to reach as many people as you can.
  • Collaborate with other bloggers. You can make new friends and share each others blogs and reach new people. Create a new tag together, something that might catch on and get your name thrown about the internet a bit.
  • Think about investing in a camera. Personally, I feel like pictures are often what attract me to a blog post so make sure you’re taking some good shots to accompany your post. To be honest, most phones these days are pretty decent quality, so if you can’t afford a camera, find yourself some good editing apps and play around and see if you can make them look better quality than they actually are.
  • Only post about things that matter to you. Don’t go writing about certain products/topics just because you think other people want to read about them – write for yourself and write about what you’re interested in. Writing about something you don’t actually have any interest in will probably come across in your writing and won’t be enjoyable, so why do it?

Let me know in the comments if you have anymore tips – I’m still learning and could definitely use them. Thanks for reading! You can find my social media links here if you want to hear more from me!

Five things beauty bloggers made me buy

Five things beauty bloggers made me buy

I’ve seen a lot of these posts about this recently and they’ve had me thinking – how many things have I bought because of other beauty bloggers? Or purely for blog pictures? Turns out there are quite a few things… Here are ten items that I’ve been encouraged to buy because of blogging.

  1. MAC’s Velvet Teddy lipstick. I am absolutely positive that if you are a beauty blogger you will be fully aware of Velvet Teddy, if you don’t own several. Beauty bloggers without a doubt influenced my choice to buy Velvet Teddy but I 100& don’t regret it at all. It is my most used lipstick by far, I love it. IMG_6994
  2. A corrector palette. I feel like a few months ago corrector palettes were everywhere and all anyone talked about so I got myself a Revolution one. Again, I don’t regret this purchase, I’m still using it everyday and it works wonders. img_5184
  3. Barry M Matte Me Up liquid lipstick. Again, these have been very talked about and beauty bloggers have been loving them as great dupes for the Kylie lip kits. Although I don’t at all regret buying the product as I really like it, I don’t really like the other shades that they sell. matte me up barry m
  4. Collection concealer is definitely another one of those products everyone was talking about, however I’m not sure I’m so on board with the hype on this one. Although the concealer itself was okay, I thought the choice of shades was pretty rubbish. Being a concealer, it should really be a shade lighter than your foundation but their lightest shade was far too dark for my pale skin. Facetune
  5. I’ve bought various gold/copper items and fairy lights to use in blog and Instagram pictures after seeing other bloggers use them. For example my New Look gold pineapple plate/dish or my Primark copper fairy lights. However, they also look really pretty in my room so it’s a win win situation really!

What products have beauty bloggers made you buy? Have you bought any of the products that I have for the same reason? Let me know in the comments! Thanks for reading and watch out for a ‘My holiday in pictures’ post coming tomorrow. If you can’t get enough of me and can’t wait until tomorrow for another post then you can check out yesterday’s blog post ‘Blogger wishlist – make-up, homeware, clothes, books & more‘ or find me on my social media links!

To be read – on holiday!

To be read – on holiday!

I have just touched down today in Devon – as you can see from the super tumblr-y feature image. So expected some adventure related posts coming in the next week! Of course, a whole week of relaxing means a hell of a lot of reading for me so I’m about to catch up on all the reading that I haven’t had time to do the past couple of months. I thought I’d share with you guys what I plan to read, and if you like I could post an update at the end of my holiday to rate the books I read.

I’m aiming to read three books while I’m away, as I’ve also got a bunch of Netflix shows I want to binge on too. These are the three I plan to read, along with a little summary of what they’re about! (Side note – I totally didn’t plan the whole pink theme, but in hindsight it makes this post way more aesthetically pleasing.)

UnknownThe first book on my list, which I am absolutely dying to read, is A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Barnard. I read Beautiful Broken Things and completely well and truly loved it and so I’m desperate to read A Quiet Kind of Thunder and praying that it is just as good. The book follow Steffi, who doesn’t talk, and Rhys, who can’t hear. When Rhys starts at Steffi’s school, she is assigned to look after with her basic knowledge of sign language. As Steffi discovers her voice, she also discovers that she is falling in love with Rhys. Let’s hope the book is as good as Beautiful Broken Things, because if you haven’t already read that then you totally should – it’s a good ‘un. Plus, both of the front covers for these books are just gorgeous, they look amazing on my book shelf.

28482571Next up is Faceless by Alyssa Sheinmel – courtesy of one of my best friends (thanks Em). I’ve really been wanting to read this one for a while, and I’m really excited now I’ve finally got the book. Faceless is about a girl called Maisie who’s face has been partially destroyed by freak lightening accident. Maisie’s life completely changes in the aftermath of the accident. Her whole life has been affected, not just her face. The book looks at how appearance affects relationships and day-to-day life and just how important looks are to the rest of the world. I’m actually so excited to read this, I really hope it lives up to my expectations because I feel like it’s going to be a really good story.

ANNA+UKLastly, Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I’ve been wanting to read Stephanie Perkins’ trilogy for ages. The reviews for Anna and the French Kiss, Lola and the Boy Next Door and Isla and the Happily Ever After are all so so good and I’ve got no idea why it’s taken me this long to get round to reading them really! The book follows Anna’s move from her happy, comfortable life in Atlanta with her best friend, car, job and dream boyfriend, when her father decides it is time for Anna to experience culture and enrols her in an American school in Paris. Anna has no idea how she’s going to survive until she comes across Etienne St. Claire, the perfect boyfriend. However, Etienne has a girlfriend and Anna has an almost-boyfriend at home in Atlanta. So if you’re wondering what will come of Anna and Etienne, you better give the book a read!

So those are the three books I’m planning to read on my week away. Expect a couple of adventurous-photography type posts at some point within the next week as I explore this little village in Devon. In the meantime, check out my social media links to find me elsewhere on the internet, and have a lovely Easter weekend!

(P.S. if you want to hit me up on Goodreads then you can find me here, although I only recently made this account so I need to get it up to date a bit more.)
