Spring clothes haul – ASOS, Boohoo & H&M

Spring clothes haul – ASOS, Boohoo & H&M

I recently treated myself to a bunch of new clothes and shoes and what not from ASOS, Boohoo and H&M and thought I’d share them with you guys. It is a slightly spring-like haul, I mean it is probably as colourful as I’m going to get..

IMG_6498The main thing I really needed was a pair of shoes. I’ve got a lot of trainers and I could do with some smarter more actual adulting shoes, so got myself these. Don’t get me wrong, I love Vans and Converse, they’re definitely way more comfortable, but sometimes you just need some smart shoes. Plus, I think these are a little bit more spring-like, although they’re still black. I got these from ASOS and they were £22. If you want to check them out you can find them here. I found that they were really true to size and they’re quite cushioned on the soles so they’re quite comfy. I love the lace up thing that they’ve got going on and I also love the little heel with the gold around it.

IMG_6503I decided to get myself a new pair of sunnies. I already have a nice pair that I got last
year, but I decided to get another pair so I could keep one in the car for when I’m driving and get blinded. I went for some big old cat eye ones by Mango from ASOS, and I’m obsessed with them. They were a little more than I’d usually pay for a pair of sunglasses at £16, but they feel really sturdy and I just like them so much that I couldn’t say no.

IMG_6499When I went looking for clothes I didn’t plan to buy pyjamas at all, but I saw these and just couldn’t resist. Again, they’re probably a bit pricey for a pair of pyjamas but just look at them. I’m always a sucker for some nice pyjamas, I like my comfy clothes. I also think that I could probably actually get away with wearing the shorts as actual clothes – they’d be nice to wear on the beach probably. They’re really nice and silky and just generally really comfy to wear in bed. Again, they’re from ASOS, you can find them here.

IMG_6501I also got this seriously pretty top from Boohoo. I absolutely love the mesh bit at the top and the flowers. The sleeves are so so cute too. I’m not usually a cute, flowery top kind of girl but this thing is gorgeous! The only thing I’d say is – make sure you’ve got a white vest top to go underneath as it is seriously quite see-through. Otherwise, the whole top is just so pretty and spring-like. The collar also makes it quite smart so it is ideal forwearing to work. I’m looking forward to wearing it with my new shoes on Monday! It was £20 but Boohoo had 20% off so I got it for £16! If you want to have a look for yourself, here you go.

IMG_6502I’m quite a skirt lover lately – I find them way more comfortable than skinny jeans. I’ve already got a blue denim skirt, but I decided to invest in a black one. It’s basically just your average blacked washed denim skirt, but I’m really pleased with it because ASOS did a tall version of the skirt, which is so so important for lanky old me. Skirts are always miles to short on me because of my mile-long-legs, but this is actually a socially acceptable length. It also has a little bit of fringing along the hem, which is quite nice. It was just £25 from ASOS, so check it out here if you fancy.

IMG_6504Lastly, I got this black strappy top from H&M. It’s not very colourful or spring-like at all, but it’s got this sort-of velvet like texture that’s really shiny, and I love the straps. I’ve actually been wearing it backwards, to be honest, because I like it with the straps at the front (just because the straps are never seen on my back with my hair down). It was just £12, and it’s so easy to stick with anything. I quite like wearing it over the top of a long sleeve plain white top when it isn’t very warm, or with an open checked shirt. Click here to see for yourself! Nice view of my armpits right? Sorry about that!

Thanks for reading! Let me know which item is you favourite in the comments! Look out for a skincare-related blog post coming tomorrow. In the meantime, you can find all my social media links here and you can check out my last blog post, my March favourites, here!

March favourites

March favourites

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, I seem to have one week where I’ll post every single day and then a week where I’ll only post like twice – not very consistent I know. However, I am here, and I’m doing another favourite because who doesn’t love a favourites? You can find my February favourites here if you like, to see what I was loving last month. I actually can’t believe it is already April. It was only December two seconds ago I swear. 2017 is flying by already! But rambling over, these are my March favourites…

spongesFirstly, I’ve been really loving these new make-up sponges I got sent. I was sent these from Basic Beauty Tools, and they’re anything but basic. They sell these little make-up sponges, which can be used wet or dry and come with this genius little stand to hold your sponge and keep it clean. It’s especially great if you use your sponges wet, because it is somewhere for it to dry hygienically. It’s a really great idea and the sponges are great quality – they literally double in size when you use them wet. Also, as you can see, the flat side and pointy tip makes them great for precision. You can really get into the corners of your eyes and around your nose. I love the way that they make my make-up look, it always looks smooth and flawless. You can check out their site here, and if you fancy grabbing yourself one you can use the discount code EMMA15 for 15% of until April 30th – how can you say no?

In other news, I’ve also been loving Tesco plants. Recently, Tesco have started succulents socks and succulentsand cacti (which we know I’m a big lover of) and not only that, but they come in gorgeous pots. I’ve already got a couple of cacti from there and a couple of rainforest-type plants in these amazing pots. They’re all such good prices and you just wouldn’t think to get plants from Tesco but I mean, aren’t they lovely? I might go check out some more supermarkets soon and see if they’re as good.

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson, oh my lord. Before you stop, don’t worry this will be spoiler free. I’m just going to say that if you’ve read I’ll Give You the Sun then you will absolutely love this too. It’s such a sad but beautiful story. If you’re a teenager or in your early 20s then you’re definitely a lot more likely to love this book. I got through the whole book in just over 24 hours, I couldn’t put it down. It’s a pretty unique plot and I really liked it. I realise this has been a terrible review, but I really don’t want to give the plot and the ending away as it’s just so bloody good!

tanya burr lippieI’ve also been seriously loving the Tanya Burr lipsticks. I recently mentioned in my Make-up Haul that I’d bought Pink Cocoa and since then I’ve bought Bigg Kiss and Birthday Cake, which are such gorgeous shades. I’m obsessed with how moisturising and soft they feel, they’re more like a lip balm. Not to mention the fact that they literally last all day.

Lastly, I’ve recently been coming home from work at half five and getting straight into some really comfy clothes. My favourite comfy item of clothing is currently my Victoria’s Secret yoga pants. They’re really thick and warm, but at the same time so stretchy. I love wearing them with an oversized top or jumper. They’re just my favourite at the moment. If it was socially acceptable to wear them 24/7 then I probably would because they are pure comfort. I bought mine back in January, so they no-longer have my exact pair, but you should definitely check the site out and if you haven’t already, get yourself some. I admit they’re a little on the pricey side for a pair of leggings, but they’re such good quality, they’re worth investing in.

Those are the five things that I’ve been really loving this month – I mean I’ve been loving a hell of a lot of things but these are the five things that I’ve narrowed it down to. What have you been loving this month? Let me know in the comments. Also let me know if you’ve been loving any of the same things as me, or have any recommendations for things I might like to include in my April favourites.

Five things I can’t resist buying

Five things I can’t resist buying

Over the years I’ve had obsessions with buying lots of things; from Match Attax cards and those Simpsons magnets that came in cereal boxes to Gogos Crazy Bones (omg do you remember those, though?) and scented pencils. Lately, my obsessions have become slightly less weird and pointless, and I have five key items that I just can’t resist buying when I already own loads of them. So here is my list.

Plants. I’ve got a proper thing for plants. I’ve always been a bit of a plant lover, even before it was cool to own those Ikea cacti. So obviously when it did become cool to own them, I fully embraced my phytophilia. I’ve got all sorts of plants, from your basic succulents to Easter cacti and tropical plants. I’ve also been known to buy myself flowers (I can hear you laughing), in fact I bought myself some tulips just the other day! Honestly, I could spend as much in a garden centre as I could in a book shop or make-up store. I love ’em.

Lipsticks. It’s weird, considering I probably only ever wear the same three lipsticks about 95% of the time, but I can’t seem to stop myself from buying lipsticks. As if I don’t already have enough, I actually ordered four new ones the other day – so expect a post on those very soon. I mainly buy nude colours, but I also like dark colours. I’m not particularly adventurous, you’ll never catch me buying purples or oranges. I tend to stick with the same kinds of colours – which makes it all the more ridiculous. I especially love a lipstick if the packaging is good. I’m a sucker for packaging. I’m not too fussy about brand, they don’t all have to be expensive, I’ll take what I can get.

Books. It’s probably pretty obvious from my blog already, but I’m a bit of a book worm. I love a good book. I mainly go for contemporary stuff, but I like a good old classic too. Young Adult, romance-y stuff is my go-to, but I’ll happily read a crime or thriller too. That being said, I can usually get into any genre, as long as the content is gripping. I always have to buy the physical book, even if I read it on my phone, I’ll still buy the actual book. I love everything about a book; I love a gorgeous front cover, the smell when they’re new, the satisfaction of adding a new book to my shelf. I’ve got a fair few books now, I had to get three new book shelves in January because I’d just got two stacks of books in the corner of my room that were getting far too tall. I bloody love a good book.

Candles. To be honest, I’ve got a lot better recently on the whole candle front recently. That being said, I’ve been sat here all morning really really regretting not buying the Yankee Candle I picked up and put back down in Tesco tonight – it was beautiful and reduced for Mother’s Day too. Maybe I’ll go back today and grab it. If you’d have known me this time last year, you’d have probably been wondering whether I’d lost the plot because I was buying that many candles. I used to pop to the shop in between college and I’d buy a new candle nearly every day. It got to the point where I had to stop because I just physically didn’t have enough space for any more. I’m slowly working my way through them. My favourite scent is definitely lavender – I love a good lavender candle.

Lastly, Notebooks. If I had a penny for every time I’ve bought a notebook in my life..I’d still be broke. Again, I just can’t resist. The stationery aisle in a shop is often the aisle I avoid, because I could easily spend as much time in the stationery aisle as the book aisle or the candle aisle. I’ve got drawers full of notebooks, some I haven’t even used because they’re too pretty to ruin (wow, I know). I just think you can never have too many notebooks, I’ll use them all one day I’m sure. I might be hoarding them now but when i’m fifty and I’m broke because I spent all my money on books, candles, lipsticks, plants and notebooks, at least I’ll be able to use them then.

What items can’t you resist buying? Are any of yours the same as mine? Let me know in the comments, I love hearing what you guys love! Thanks for reading, and make sure you stick around because I accidentally placed an order with Superdrug the other day, and as soon as it arrives I’ll be putting up a big make-up haul, so keep an eye out. Until then, you can find me on any of my social media links

Favourite Four – clothes I can’t live without

Favourite Four – clothes I can’t live without

I’ve recently posted a lot of make-up posts, so I thought I’d mix it up a bit for you and put up a clothes related post. Following on from my Favourite Four Products I Can’t Live Without post, I thought I’d do the same but with items of clothing.

First up is 100% without a doubt my current favourite pair of shoes (shoes are included vans pic 3in items of clothing right?). My Old Skool Vans. I’ve wanted a pair of these for ages but at £50 I just couldn’t seem to justify them (which is mad considering I’ll happily spend that on make-up or books?) but I bit the bullet and treated myself in February. Every time I come home and have to take my shoes off I actually hate having to take them off – but my Mom is a real anti-shoes in the house Mom.  They’re so so comfy and although they probably don’t quite go with everything, I make them work with everything. They’re basically the only shoes I wear now. I’m such a  Vans/Converse over heels kind of girl and I just wish I’d bloody bought these sooner! I got mine from Schuh, here’s the link if you want to check them out.

Next up, of course, would be my black jeans. Although I end up buying a new pair every few months because they always fade (if you know of any pairs out there that don’t fade LET ME KNOW, I beg you), they’re still my go-to trouser option. I usually opt for ASOS ones as they’re quite stretchy – which is always needed after dinner, being high waisted jeans – I also like how you can choose the leg length as I’m a tall gal and the average length jeans just aren’t ever long enough for me. Black jeans are just so easy to work with; you can put them with more or less anything and they can be casual, smart, dressy. You can’t go wrong.

Ayyy for Holly Willoughby on TV in the background

I’ve mentioned this black dungaree dress from H&M before in my February Favourites, and it has quite quickly become one of my favourite items of clothing ever. It is my go-to when my Mom forces me to wash my black jeans, or when I’ve worn my black jeans for more than the socially acceptable amount of days and need to change it up to show people that I do own other clothes. I really love how it looks with my Vans too actually. I can also get away with it at work, as when worn with the right top it can look quite formal. So it’s a win win, I love it. If you fancy getting yourself one, you can check it out here.

lets pretend the lighting is fab and the quality is top notch

I’m really torn for my last one. I can’t decide whether to go with my leather jacket or my denim jacket, so I’m going to be rebellious and mention both. Although I’ve got a variety of coats and jackets, I always end up wearing one of these two. I usually opt for the leather jacket for work or if I’m trying to look a bit more dressy. Whereas, the denim jacket is a bit more laid back and informal – which is more me to be honest. My denim jacket is super oversized and again is from ASOS. It was about £55 I believe when I bought it about this time last year, but it’s a real investment. I can’t seem to find the same jacket, but here’s one very similar you can get. My leather jacket isn’t actually leather, it’s faux and it was just from Boohoo for around £30. I got it about two and a half years ago, so it’s lasted me well, and it’s just so easy to put with everything, like black jeans. Again, I don’t think it’s the exact same but here’s a really similar one, and it’s vegan too!

So there’s my four (or five) favourite items of clothing. What are your favourite items of clothing? Are any of yours the same of mine? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks for reading, and if you’d like to see more posts from me then be sure to follow my blog. In the meantime, you can find me on my social media accounts and you can find links to my accounts on my Social Media Links page.

DIY memory board

DIY memory board

I recently made myself a really cute marble memory board and I thought I’d share with you what I used and how I did it as a bit if inspo!  I thought it would be a really nice thing to be able to look up at while sat at my desk and I plan to use it as a specifically 2017 memory board, although I’ve just put general memories on the board for the picture.

I’ve filled it with concert tickets, polaroids, some stickers, train tickets, cinema tickets and festival lanyards. You can really put whatever you like on there – whatever is memorable for you and whatever matters!

I started off by buying some sticky back plastic from Amazon in a marble design. It’s the same stuff that I use for the background of my photos on my blog, and I know a lot of other bloggers use it too, so you probably recognise it. It’s by the brand d-c-fix and is available at B&Q, Wilkos and on Amazon. My Dad then found me a spare piece of thin hardboard – but if you don’t have a Dad with an endless supply of hardboard you can get some from B&Q or Wickes – which I didn’t actually need to cut down because it was already the perfect size, but obviously you could if you wanted to.

I then just put the marble sticky back plastic on to the board (I’d suggest getting a second pair of hands for this and maybe a cloth to help rub out bubbles as you put it down).

Then came the tricky bit.. how to get it on to the wall and making it look like it is floating on the wall. Evidently, blue tack wasn’t going to cut it so I consulted my Dad and he came up with the idea of drilling two screws into the wall and then getting a small strip of hardboard and drilling two holes to hook the screws on to and then finally gluing the strip onto the board. Basically, the board hooks onto the two screws in the wall, allowing it to sit really close to the wall and look like it is floating – nice one Dad.

So then I hooked popped some fairy lights around it and put on some stickers that I got from the wonderful Redbubble.com (you should totally check out their site – hundreds of individual artists put up their designs and you can buy the designs on cushions, t-shirts, stickers etc). At this point it just looked like this…

IMG_5955

But when I filled it with some of my favourite bits, it looked like this…

IMG_5954

I don’t know about you guys, but I freaking love it. I can’t wait to fill it with just purely memories from 2017 – it’s definitely one of my goals for the year. It’s such a motivator and  it’s also just lovely to look back on!

This was so cheap and easy to make and looks amazing up on my wall – why not give it a go? Let me know if you do, because I’d love to see! Also, make sure you go check out the Redbubble website and go buy some bits to support those artists on there, it’s a great site and some of the designs are really beautiful! I’ve bought a load of stickers and  plastered my notebooks and laptop in them!

Thanks for reading! Make sure you look out for new post tomorrow about my favourite staple clothes that I couldn’t live without. In the meantime you can find me on Twitter or Instagram, or even snapchat me – add emmachxrlotte!
